Aston Hill Southern Championship

I got to Aston Hill midday on the practise day. It was a new track basically from top to bottom so instead of doing the usual walk the course I got the bike straight out and got to work. From my first run I thought it was an amazing track. It was just corner after corner on loose rooty ground with a constantly good gradient.

I was going to be competing in the national 4X on sunday but the track was so good and amongst other reasons to do with points and time on the bike before Schladming Dad and I decided to stay and race here.

It was a fantastic race and one of the best organised english races I have been to; even with the numbers reaching a maximum 300 riders it still all went to plan. Well done to Rich for organising a great race and als well done to John Holbrook fo building an awsome course and maintaining it well during practise.

By race day everyone was looking very fast on the track. My first race run was strong. I had a good run with the usual obligatory small mistakes but knew Ihad a strong run. Thankfully my time matched this and I got a 1 min and 7 seconds. this put me into 1st place by a clear gap.

On my second run I went to go that little bit faster but where i managed to do this in some places I also made silly mistakes in others. I went a fraction of a second slower in the end but still with a 1 min 7 second run. I kept 1st place by a couple of seconds and managed 2nd place out of the full 300 people. I was really happy that I had 2 good runs when the course was very hard to be consistant on and also to get the points so that the chance of going up to elite next year is still there.

Here are a few pictures of the weekend; sorry there isnt many photos of the track;
